I bought a third party wired Xbox 360 controller several years ago because I was tired of replacing batteries, and for some reason I couldn't find any Microsoft wired controllers. Now, I have a home-built PC, and I have started emulating old games. I have found that it is possible to play Nintendo 64 games with the keyboard, but the arrow keys make moving around much more difficult in Ocarina of Time. Thus, I considered buying a USB N64 controller, but I remembered that I still have that old Xbox 360 USB controller. Now, after hours of research, everyone seems to believe that any USB controller should install its own drivers automatically. In this case, I plug it in, it tries to install a driver, and it then tells me that no drivers were found and that the driver did not install successfully. Troubleshooting just makes it try again and fail again. I have checked, and the controller does still work on the 360. When I plug it into the computer, the middle light flashes as if it is trying to connect. Some have said that this might relate to the motherboard, so if it is important, I have an Asus Maximus VI Gene. I have tried downloading Xbox 360 Accessories 1.2, and it does nothing. I have tried completely uninstalling the controller, uninstalling and reinstalling Xbox 360 Accessories 1.2, restarting my computer, plugging it back in, and almost every combination and ordering of those steps. The controller does not have any brand name that I can find, so I don't know who manufactured it. Since it has been several years since I bought it, I am certain that I don't have the original packaging, so I'm not sure if it came with any installation discs.
Now, my question is, what else can I do to make this stupid controller work on my computer? 'Buy another controller' is an acceptable answer, but it would be nice if I didn't have to spend any money. Best Third Party Xbox Controller![]() Xbox One Wired Controller Driver
Hi,
I'm having a problem installing a wired 360 controller to my windows 7 64 bit pc. I understand that there are lots of threads about this, but the software seems to be so badly designed that every problem is unique and most answers have little relevance to my problem. When I plug the controller into the USB port, it says 'USB device not recognized' and won't install the driver. I have installed the driver software and it appears under the start menu, however when i try to manually update the driver via device manager, the driver does not appear in the menu. for clarity, I am talking about the 'manual driver update' process, I navigate to the Microsoft section but there is in the box is keyboard/officer drivers, no controller ones. I read somewhere that this may be caused by permissions. but I am the only user on the system and so I have no idea how to remedy that. Thanks for any help you can offer. Comments are closed.
